LE VRAI NICK CAVE

>>> FR version

LE VRAI NICK CAVE isn't your average tribute act. It's a stage phenomenon born from the uncanny resemblance between artist Grégoire Motte (aka Rommelpotman) and the iconic Australian singer Nick Cave – a daily double-take since his teens. Fast forward to 2022, a follicle-fueled conversation with drummer Yannick Dupont Condor ignited a Luciferian endeavor: to adapt and reinterpret Nick Cave, live, in French.

Dupont assembled Brussels' finest musical assassins; Motte stepped up to the mic. This isn't fanboy worship; it's the stark, crystalline reflection of a mirror demanding attention. And that's precisely where the distance, the nonchalance, the genuine invention kicks in: This is not a cover band.

Lyrics and music are twisted, turned, and sometimes entirely replaced, fueled by Motte's literary bent and the extraordinary versatility of the supergroup that is LE VRAI NICK: Yannick Dupont Condor on drums, Aurélie Muller on bass, Eric Bribosia on keys, and Gil Mortio on guitar.

("From Her to Eternity" now tells the scandalous tale of a Schaerbeek farmer and the first Witloof, a bewitching creature of the night, a market garden Galatea; "The Curse of Millhaven" morphs into a sprawling, grimy dub, and so on.)

Their permissive interpretation and raw, versatile live energy transform LE VRAI NICK CAVE into a bizarre dance band with a penchant for jazz and medieval contrafactum.

The band's improvisational streak and the use of local yet utterly strange – perhaps even unique – instruments like the electric rommelpot and the electric beer (a mic'd beer can, single-use per gig) give birth to truly singular and unforgettable concerts.

LE VRAI NICK CAVE: it's a concept, it's a performance, it's an Australian barbecue in Walloon Brabant.

To truly grasp it, you have to witness the glorious,

Gallic weirdness firsthand.
